Claude Code 2.1.206 brought major improvements to agent visibility and automation in July, including new state indicators, automatic pull request creation, and expanded model availability.
Agents and automation
- Background agent pull requests: Agents now automatically commit, push, and open draft pull requests when finishing code work, eliminating manual steps.
- Agent state indicators: The agent view now displays colored state indicators and AI-generated headlines instead of raw tool calls, with peek mode for full context on blocked sessions.
- /fork and /subtask commands: The /fork command now creates a background session; use /subtask for the old in-session subagent behavior.
- /resume command enhancement: Shows a picker of all past sessions including deleted ones, and resumes your selection as a background session.
Models and providers
- Claude Opus 5 availability: Now available as the default Opus model with 1 million token context window and fast mode support at $10 and $50 per million tokens.
- Auto mode on major platforms: Now enabled by default on Bedrock, Vertex AI, and Foundry without requiring environment variables; disable via disableAutoMode setting if needed.
- Claude Platform on AWS: Now available as an upstream provider in the gateway with improved failover handling for model-not-found responses.
Interface and workflow
- /doctor command: Performs complete setup diagnosis and can automatically fix detected issues; analyzes CLAUDE.md files and suggests removing redundant content.
- Screen reader mode: Offers opt-in plain-text rendering for accessibility, configurable via command flag, environment variable, or settings file.
- /dataviz skill: Provides chart and dashboard design guidance, including a runnable color-palette validator.
