Amp v4.8 introduced major improvements to agent capabilities, including remote execution, inter-agent communication, and external integrations, while simplifying mode selection and launching a subscription pricing model.
Agents and Execution
- Remote agent execution: Run agents on any machine—laptop, server, cloud, or Raspberry Pi—via headless runner mode supporting multiple instances without a UI.
- Agent spawning and messaging: Agents can spawn other agents across local and remote machines and exchange messages and files, enabling parallel work and task coordination.
- Scheduled agents: Agents wake at specified times with full context intact, supporting recurring tasks like monitoring and error triaging via fixed or interval-based schedules.
- Webhook integration: Orbs automatically wake and execute custom logic when external events occur from GitHub, Linear, Discord, CI systems, or any HTTP service.
Interface and Workflow
- Simplified agent modes: Four-position dial—low, medium, high, ultra—replaces complex mode names, letting you choose based on task difficulty rather than specific models.
- Multiplayer orbs: Turn any orb into a shared environment where workspace members join threads, message agents, and access files and terminals together.
- Slack integration: Mention @Amp in Slack to fix bugs, investigate issues, and search your codebase directly from channels and threads.
- Puck personal assistant: New assistant throughout ampcode.com helps spawn agents, manage threads, and coordinate work across projects with access to screenshots and production logs.
Infrastructure and Security
- OIDC authentication for orbs: Orbs authenticate securely to external services using identity tokens with custom claims, supporting GCP, Tailscale, AWS KMS, and other OIDC providers with short-lived tokens.
- Improved thread handling: Read_thread tool now uses a specialized subagent to reliably search and verify information across massive threads weeks old or millions of tokens long.
