Google Antigravity released major updates throughout August 2026, introducing Vim modal editing, generative UI rendering, remote agent control, and significant improvements to the IDE and CLI workflows.
Editing and Interaction
- Vim modal editing: Optional Vim mode in the CLI with Normal, Insert, and Visual modes, toggled in settings and configurable key bindings for prompt submission.
- Generative UI: HTML artifacts render inline with KaTeX math, Chart.js, and Plotly charts directly in chat conversations.
- Embedded terminal: Terminal runs in the IDE sidebar with keyboard shortcut, letting you execute builds and tests without leaving the editor.
- Voice dictation: Use /voice to transcribe speech into prompts, with mic-serve SSH forwarding for remote microphones.
Agent Control and Automation
- Remote Control: Drive and monitor agent sessions from any browser with task notifications and real-time updates.
- Model switching: New /model command to switch between models by name, slug, or label with autocompletion and ghost text hints.
- Autonomous agents by default: Autonomous behavior is now the default; switch to interactive mode via CapabilitiesConfig.
Development Workflow
- Git integration: Review pane now lets you inspect diffs, stage files, and commit directly within the app.
- File attachments and comments: Attach plain text, PDF, and markdown files; preview file comments inline with line numbers and direct code links.
- MCP server management: CLI gains commands for adding, removing, and configuring MCP servers without manual editing.
