Zed 1.5.3 to 1.8.2 brought expanded model support, granular agent permissions, and improved workflow controls across the month of June.
Models and providers
- Fast Mode for OpenAI and Anthropic: Priority service tier access for quicker responses at higher per-token cost.
- New model options: Added Claude Opus 4.8, Claude Fable 5, Gemini 3.5 Flash, Qion 3.7 Plus, DeepSeek V4 Flash, and others to available model rosters.
- Anthropic-compatible providers: Support for third-party providers compatible with Anthropic's API in settings.
Agent and automation
- Granular terminal permissions: Agents can request write access to specific paths per command and allowlist network access to specific hosts instead of all-or-nothing access.
- Agent thread management: Right-click menu for regenerating titles, renaming, exporting as markdown, and archiving threads.
- Skill sharing and storage: Share agent skills via links and use auto-compaction or /compact command to optimize storage.
Interface and workflow
- Git branch comparison: New git: compare with branch action and context menu on git graph ref labels to run custom git commands directly.
- Worktree creation from sidebar: Create new worktrees directly without leaving the sidebar.
- Notebook cell interruption: Stop button to interrupt running kernels in notebook cells.
- Editor delimiter selection: New actions to select content within or around delimiters, expanding on repeat.
