Zed released versions 1.9.0 through 1.13.1 in July, adding local AI inference, expanded model support across multiple providers, and significant improvements to Git workflows and code navigation.
AI and Models
- Local AI inference via llama.cpp: Run language models locally without relying on external providers.
- Expanded model availability: Added GPT 5.6 Sol, Terra, and Luna; Claude Opus 5; Grok 4.5; and models from Amazon Bedrock and Mantle endpoints.
- Enhanced reasoning for OpenCode: Support for higher reasoning levels and adaptive thinking for more complex problem-solving.
Git Workflows
- Staged and unstaged changes views: Dedicated panels and staging grouping option simplify reviewing and managing changes before commit.
- Git Panel layout options: Switch between list and tree layouts, sort by path or name, and group by status for better organization.
- Restore buttons: Quickly discard changes directly from the Git panel.
Code Navigation and Editing
- Multi-select in File Finder: Open multiple files at once using Ctrl/Cmd-click or Tab.
- Preview panes in pickers: File finder, project search, project symbols, and LSP result pickers now show previews before jumping to results.
- Agent Panel improvements: Quick menu to add remote MCP servers, slash command feedback, and copy buttons for responses.
Collaboration
- Auto-watch for screen shares: Automatically open other participants' screen shares during collaboration calls.
