Zed September 2026 brought expanded AI model support across multiple providers, new code navigation features, and improved file handling capabilities.
Models and Providers
- Extended AI model support: Added GPT-5.6 on Amazon Bedrock, Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite and 3.8 Flash, Grok 4.5 through 4.7, DeepSeek Flash 4.1, Claude Opus 5.5, GPT-6 Sol/Luna/Astra, and Z.ai GLM from Mistral. Grok 4.7 is now the recommended default for SuperGrok and xAI.
- Bring Your Own Key for GPT-6.1 Sol: Use your own OpenAI API key to access GPT-6.1 Sol, and SuperGrok sign-in now provides direct Grok model access in the Agent Panel.
Code Navigation and Editing
- Call hierarchy support: View incoming and outgoing function calls using default shortcuts for easier code navigation and understanding.
- Wrap-with-abbreviation command: Quickly surround code with custom snippets using Emmet's wrap-with-abbreviation feature.
- Language server enhancements: Language servers can now open files and URLs, and you can run language-server actions directly from inlay hints.
Interface and Workflow
- Git panel multi-select: Select multiple files or commits in the Git panel to batch-operate on them more efficiently.
- Tabular file preview: Press cmd-shift-v (macOS) or ctrl-shift-v (Linux/Windows) to open a tabular preview for CSV, TSV, SSV, and PSV files.
- Git diff base toggle: Switch diffs between HEAD and the default branch with a new git: toggle diff base action.
